April 8, 2017 (Lemon Grove) — Back by popular demand, the Lemon Grove Historical Society and the Lemon Grove Library again team up to present an encore lecture from "History Alive" -- the hugely popular "The Art of the Quilt" with quilt historian Sylvia Wallace. Hasten to theLemon Grove Library on April 29 at 2 p.m. for this treat.
Wallace's fabulous quilt collection tells the story, along with her eloquent words, as she traces the quilt from the Egyptians to modern times. From shroud, to domestic necessity, to political statement, to work of art, quilts have emerged not only as treasured family heirlooms, but as museum-quality textile artworks.
Don't miss this opportunity to marvel at the minute stitching of yore, the audacious designs of now, and everything in between as Wallace takes us on a ride through history filled with fun facts and illuminating social dynamics. "The Art of the Quilt" is free and suitable for ages 16 and over. Parking on School Lane, Lincoln Street, in the rear lot and in the overflow lot directly opposite the library.
