August 29, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) – The San Diego Sheriff’s department has released the identity of a 19-year-old shot dead in Lemon Grove on August 24th by law enforcement officers after a pursuit that began in La Mesa and ended on Rebecca Lane in Lemon Grove.
Isaias Raziel Ochoa from Spring Valley fled from officers, who released a dog to help subdue Ochoa. According to Lt. Kenneth Nelson with the Sheriff’s homicide unit, Ochoa shot at officers, who returned fire.
The four officers who opened fire are Officers Taylor Persitza and Jonathan Seydel from the La Mesa Police Department, Officer Jonathan Wiese from the San Diego Police Department, and Sergeant Kotaro Murashige from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
Officer Persitza has been employed by the La Mesa Police Department for 1 year. Officer Seydel has been employed by the La Mesa Police Department for 1.5 years. Officer Wiese has been employed by the San Diego Police Department for 19 years. Sheriff's Sergeant Murashige has been employed by the San Diego Sheriff's Department for 22 years.
The incident began when a La Mesa Police officer attempted a traffic stop and heard a scream. The vehicle took off and multiple agencies were called to assist in the pursuit.
Corner on a cul-de-sac in Lemon Grove, three men in the vehicle got out and ran. One man believed to have been in the car was quickly taken into custody, but was later released.
Another passenger, Dominic Jones, 19, was arrested August 25th and charged with a parole violation involving a weapon.
