February 12, 2018 (Lemon Grove) – What makes the Martin Luther King Choir so fantastic? Join us and find out on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane, when artistic director Ken Anderson brings his choir of superb singers, the fabled Martin Luther King Jr. Choir, to the community room for a free performance in celebration of Black History Month.

Bring the kids and prepare to be wowed. Soloists are a cross between Maria Callas and Whitney Houston, and Paul Robeson and Enrico Caruso, while the well-integrated choir is a cross between a symphony orchestra and a big band. This unique ensemble specializes in performing and preserving the music of the African diaspora, accompanied by Anderson's insightful commentary and backstories about the lyrics and the music.

If you love music and history, this concert is for you. If you love the sight and sound of well-trained, volunteer performers singing their hearts out, this concert is for you. If you love the memory of a great American, this concert is for you. But, most of all, if you love the story of our country for all its failures, successes, tragedies and triumphs, this concert is for you.

Find fee parking on School Lane, in the Lincoln Street lot behind the library, and in the overflow lot in front of the Fire Department. Come early for a good seat.

This event is made possible by the Friends of the Lemon Grove Library, the San Diego County Library System, and the Lemon Grove Library, with the hearty endorsement of the Lemon Grove Historical Society.
