June 28, 2018 (Lemon Grove) - When you're 90, weigh 3,000 pounds and sit in baking heat all day, you need all the help you can get.
The Big Lemon is all of the above. Lady Lemon will be 90 on the Fourth of July. We're holding a birthday party on July 3 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Lemon (southwest corner of Broadway & Lemon Grove Avenue). Please come (park on Main Street) and sing "America the Beautiful," hear dignitaries, have a tasty Lemon Bite, get a Big Lemon factoid, see the ribbon-cutting on the next 90 years, and warble "Happy Birthday, Dear Lemon."
The City of Lemon Grove and the Lemon Grove Historical Society have joined forces for Lady Lemon's Beauty Makeover. She's getting a bath, a fresh yellow complexion--and, best of all, new (but vintage style) makeup! We have a talented sign painter starting work on Friday, June 29, and working through the weekend to help our Big Lemon look her best on her 90th anniversary as the only giant fruit in America next to a mass transit line.
Lemon Grovians love their Big Lemon and have refused to part with her all these years. Please join us and give our darling old lady a rousing send-off into her next 90 years as a great symbol of our noble agrarian heritage.
See you there!
