Residents and experts to discuss changes needed to create local government by the people, for the people

September 13, 2018 (Lemon Grove) -- Dozens of East County residents will gather for a free town hall discussion on the barriers that exclude working people from joining the agencies that make decisions impacting their lives. The event will be held Sept. 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lemon Grove Community Center, 3146 School Lane in Lemon Grove. It was prompted by the Community Representation Report from the Center on Policy Initiatives, which revealed East County as the largest geographic region in San Diego with a stark lack of diversity between decision-makers on boards and commissions and community residents.
At this free event, residents will learn why community representation matters in East County and how to take action.
Along with local political candidates and interfaith leaders, community members will discuss:
- How current systems created governing bodies that don’t represent the majority of people of San Diego
- Changes these governing bodies can make to become more relevant and effective
- How community members can participate in creating a government by the people, for the people
