June 25, 2019 (Lemon Grove) -- Two suspects have been charged with the violent assault of a man found bleeding in the street in Lemon Grove late Monday night, says Sergeant Sanchez with the San Diego Sheriff’s department.
Deputies from Lemon Grove and Rancho San Diego responded to the scene, along with Heartland Fire and Paramedics. Deputies found the victim sprawled on the sidewalk on Pacific Avenue around 10:45 p.m. with a laceration to his head.
Witnesses said four young men in a light blue vehicle chased the victim, then beat him on the body and head with a long stick and a metal pipe.
An axe was found near the scene, but authorities later determined it was not used in the assault.
The victim was treated and taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital.
Deputes found a possible suspect vehicle on Daytona Street and contacted a group of males associated with the vehicle. 25-year-old Terrell Mallard admitted to the assault and was booked into the San Diego County jail.
A second suspect, who is 15 years old, also admitted to the assault. He was charged at the Lemon Grove Sheriff’s Station and released to his mother pending a hearing.
