By Miriam RafterySeptember 18, 2019 (Lemon Grove) – An unidentified man walking north in traffic lanes of State Route 94 east at College Avenue was struck by a 2010 Nissan Altima around 8:45 p.m. The driver, a 27-year-old woman from San Diego, swerved upon seeing the man walking directly into the path of her vehicle in the number three lane, but was unable to avoid hitting him.
The pedestrian was then struck again by four to five additional vehicles.
“Several involved parties called 911 to report that they struck the pedestrian,” says Officer Travis Garrow with the California Highway Patrol.
Fire personnel and CHP units arrived shortly after the collision, but due to the blunt force trauma sustained, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not yet known whether the pedestrian was under the influence or drugs or alcohol.
“The driver of the Nissan remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver of the Nissan was determined not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The people who called 911 are still being contacted and interviewed by CHP personnel.
