October 6, 2019 (Lemon Grove) – Matthew Porter, 44, is under arrest after admitting to stealing a Sheriff deputy’s patrol car last night.
Around 8:52 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Lemon Grove Patrol Station was unloading his patrol car at the end of the shift. According to Lieutenant Mike Rand, a “transient male gained access to the patrol car and drove away.”
Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the station and began a pursuit, but lost sight of it as it drove eastbound on Broadway. While deputies continued searching streets nearby in Lemon Grove, a resident called 911 to report an abandoned patrol car in the 3500 block of Grove Street.
Deputies located the vehicle several minutes later and detained Porter, 44, who later admitted to stealing the patrol car, according to Lt. Rand.
Porter was arrested and booked into county jail on multiple charges, including felony evading and auto theft.
