October 13, 2023 (Lemon Grove) -- The Lemon Grove Forward Club is aiming to get warm new, unused socks directly into the hands of the unhoused in Lemon Grove and the rest of East County. The Forward Club was able to collect over 1100 pairs of socks last year and they are hoping this year to reach over 1600 pairs.
Socks are the number one requested item from the unhoused during the winter months. As temperatures start to dip down and the rainy season approaches these needs increase drastically.
A portion of the socks collected are distributed straight into the hands of the unhoused in Lemon Grove year-round through a weekly distribution by local non-profit Church of Salvation and the Lemon Grove Improvement Council. Several hundred pairs of socks are then distributed to local non-profit outreaches that service homeless individuals, families, youth, elderly and veteran’s alike.
If you would like to donate new/unused socks to the Lemon Grove Forward Club annual Socktober drive you can email the club at lemongrovewomensclub@gmail.com or shop directly on their Amazon wish list and the socks will be shipped directly to the Lemon Grove Forward Club for distribution. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1D0GLVVEWXJ9T?ref_=wl_share
