Blood drive from 2-4 p.m. April 4 in Treganza Heritage Park, Lemon Grove
By Chris Ernest Nelson
March 29, 2024 (Lemon Grove) -- Living in community is humankind’s primary means of survival. Our happiness, our well-being, and our purpose are all sustained by people working together in meaningful sympathy. Long-time San Diego County resident, Mrs. Charlene Waddell, knows from experience the importance of a healthy community, both in our general well-being and in the spirit of sacrifice. In 2006, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Her recovery required multiple surgeries that took parts of her colon, her liver, and her entire appendix. She required a lot of blood to survive. Thanks to the San Diego Blood Bank, which is there to help everyone in need of blood, Charlene got the precious blood she needed, and has made a welcome recovery.
Charlene Waddell understands community because she has served it for many years, in so many positive ways: as a spokesperson and Blood-Drive host for San Diego Blood Bank, food bank volunteer (feeding over 135 families), and Ministry Leader of Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church of San Diego. She has also been active with community youth services, business expos, and as ambassador for the San Diego Rescue Mission. At the time of her cancer diagnosis, she was busy traveling and training ministry leaders across the country. Since her recovery, she has continued her service as a part of the thriving heart of this community.
As part of a community celebration of her 70th birthday, Charlene is appealing to friends, neighbors, and those with a love of giving, to donate blood during at a special Blood-Drive, sponsored by the San Diego Blood Bank, on April 4 between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.at Treganza Heritage Park (3200 Main Street in Lemon Grove). The Blood Drive will be part of the weekly Farmers Mobile Market, so participants will enjoy shopping for organic foods and a variety of other products, special entertainments by local artists, informational health services, and lots of fresh-air, quality time with family and neighbors, and new friends to make.
Come join Charlene, Thrive Lemon Grove, and the San Diego Blood Bank in the important work of building a healthy happy community, and the joy of celebrating life. Charlene wants to remind you that you are the one who makes this the kind of community that elevates the human spirit.
In the same way blood sustains the life of the body, giving sustains the life of the community, and enriches the human spirit.
